Happy pink

Most of my art is 'tight' and laborious, so I have been working hard to make intuitive and easy work lately. It is especially fun as a warmup to the rest of the work ahead of me. This has been one of my favorite pieces - it is so irrepressibly happy.

Book of Birds – Munia

I started a small art journal as a fun take on a field guide of birds. I created 3 entries of my own, and then sent it on to other artists for their take on the project. I cannot wait to see what flies home again.

Matchbox goodies

I made these tiny assemblage pieces for the pure joy of it. I took this photo before filling the matchboxes with epoxy resin. The one on the left even has a baby tooth from one of my kids. ;)

Fabulous Fungi

My husband and I are avid hikers, and I have fallen in love with fungi. I would love to take photos of birds while hiking, but they don't hold as still as mushrooms do.

Chicken

An old ink illustration of a glorious chicken. This was one of my first time playing with inks. I'm addicted now and have a whole bunch of wonderful colors.⠀

Mixed media love

Here is the other half of my concertina mixed media spread. I really want to work more on my mark making.

Mixed Media

I took a workshop last year, and made this concertina mixed media piece that was four pages wide! This is just one section and will post another section on Wednesday. I had so much fun doing this, that I look forward to making more.

Bird stamp

I tried my hand at stamp making. I have seen so many detailed and gorgeous handmade stamps, and am discovering that it is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. So this piece includes my very basic silhouette stamps, and loads of colorful acrylic paint....
Book collage

Book collage

This lovely book collage is now in my daughter's collection. It's called Shadow of my Former Self, and it was an absolute joy to make. It's fun when art just flows.

Wallflower

Wallflower

This 30x40 painting is called Wallflower. Like the blush of her dress, the victorian meaning of the peonies in the wallpaper is 'bashful'.

Excess is Dangerous

Excess is Dangerous

This 30x40 painting is called Excess is Dangerous, which is the victorian meaning for the saffron flower, seen in the lower third of the composition. Look for other symbols in the painting to reflect that overall message.

Nesting Dolls

Nesting Dolls

I participated in a nesting doll exchange several years back. We each made a set, and sent it to the group leader, who sent us back a mixed collection from the artists who participated. This was the grouping that I made - clearly, birds have been a long time love.

Sketchbook magic

Sketchbook magic

My fav mixed media piece I've ever done. Sometimes you create art and it just flows from some mysterious source - this was one of those occasions. Fortunately, it's in my sketchbook, so it will forever be mine.

Virgil Abloh rug

Virgil Abloh rug

I found a Virgil Abloh rug at a second hand store!! I’m currently renovating my art studio and it will go wonderfully in there. #ikearug #virgilabloh #artliveshere

Botanical Doodle

Botanical Doodle

This plant life study just seemed to flow out of me. I didn't even know I was capable of this. What a great feeling. I like it so much that I think I'm going to try and recreate some of it in encaustic.⁣ ⁣ #botanicillustration #findyourflow #sketchbookrevival

Eurasian Blue Tit Painting

Eurasian Blue Tit Painting

This lovely little Eurasian Blue Tit was a joy to paint. I just love birds and should really be making more of them. Hopefully, there will be many more showing up here! This little guy was painted with acrylics on paper, in my sketchbook.⁣ ⁣ #eurasianbluetit...
